What Is Dual Cure Emulsion?

Dual cure emulsion is a hybrid system that combines photopolymer emulsion with a diazo sensitizer. This creates a stencil that offers both improved durability and a wider exposure latitude compared to pure photopolymer emulsions.

When to Use Dual Cure Emulsion

Dual cure emulsions are best suited for:

  • water-based ink printing
  • discharge printing
  • plastisol printing
  • high detail artwork and halftones
  • shops needing more forgiving exposure times

They are commonly used in both small shops and production environments where durability and flexibility are important.

Dual Cure vs Photopolymer Emulsion

Dual cure emulsions provide greater exposure latitude and improved durability compared to photopolymer emulsions.

Photopolymer emulsions expose faster and are easier to use, but they require more precise exposure control and may not perform as well with water-based inks.

Dual Cure vs Diazo Emulsion

Dual cure emulsions expose faster than diazo emulsions while still maintaining good exposure latitude.

Diazo emulsions are more forgiving but slower to expose and less commonly used in modern high-efficiency workflows.

Best Emulsion for Water-Based and Discharge Printing

Dual cure emulsions are often the preferred choice for water-based and discharge printing because of their improved resistance to moisture and chemicals.

These emulsions help maintain stencil integrity during longer print runs and more demanding ink systems.

Choosing the Right Emulsion

Selecting the right emulsion depends on your ink type, exposure system, and level of detail required.

Dual cure emulsions provide one of the most versatile options available, making them a strong choice for printers working across multiple applications.
